Guardian Star

Every morning, your family knows you're OK.

Guardian Star checks you in when your iPhone notices you're up and about. If nothing has by your check-in time, it asks you first. Your family hears only if you don't answer.

Free, for iPhone with iOS 26 or later.

How a morning goes

  1. 7:40 AM

You get up. Your iPhone notices your first steps and checks you in. On most days, that's all: you never open the app.

  2. 10:00 AM

On a day nothing has checked you in by your time, it asks first: a gentle "Are you OK?" alarm, even on silent. One tap and you're done.

  3. 10:15 AM

No answer? The first person on your family list is told, with your last sign of life and your battery level. Then everyone.

  4. 10:16 AM

Whoever is calling you taps "I'm on it", so the rest of the family knows it's handled.

The times, and how long to wait before anyone is told (15 minutes to 2 hours), are yours to choose.

For you

  • Checked in by your steps, your movement or your Apple Watch. Or tap "I'm OK".
  • Up to three check-ins a day, at your times, and a later time on the days you choose.
  • Going away? Pause it, and your family is told until when.
  • A widget, Siri, or an NFC sticker on the coffee maker: check in however suits you.
  • It keeps working in the background: a silent nudge each morning, even if you haven't opened it in a while.
  • Hearts and short notes from family, when they're thinking of you.

For your family

  • See at a glance that everyone is OK, in the app or on a Home Screen widget.
  • If a check-in is missed: the last sign of life and the battery level, so you know whether to call or stop by.
  • A battery warning at the level you choose, so you can call before the phone dies, and a note if it may have died.
  • Ask Siri: "Is Mom OK in Guardian Star?"
  • A short note every Sunday about how the week went.
  • Getting a parent started from far away? Install Guardian Star, choose "For someone I care about", and send them a link.

Guardian Star Plus

  • Alerts by text and phone call, so family without an iPhone are told too: a neighbor, a friend nearby. A link in each text lets them say they're on it.
  • A short text each day when all is well.
  • An emergency card for your family: your address, how to get in, who to call.
  • 90 days of check-ins, and up to 10 people on your family list.

Coming soon. Checking in, the alarm and alerts in the app are free, and stay free.

Looking out, not watching

  • No account, no password, no ads.
  • Your steps and movement stay on your iPhone. Only when there was a sign of life, what kind it was and your battery level are sent. Guardian Star never uses your location.
  • Phone numbers you add for the Call button stay on your iPhone.
